"Abstract" is one of the assignment completed during the "Colour & Composition" course offered by Temasek Design School. This assignment requires submission of an A3 size semi abstract image painting using tint & shade colour and an A3 size process drawing in sketch form showing the development of the painting.

"Abstract" is chosen by my lecturer Ms Tia Boon Sim for exhibition in Temasek Design School Gallery, from April 2004 to February 2005.

Description of "Abstract"
The concept I have selected is based on the woodpecker "Olly Pekka", the main character of the Nokia Java™ Game of the same name.

For Process 1, I simply sketch out the outline of Olly Pekka and trace it onto a sheet of paper. In Process 2, I overlay the woodpecker with an enlargement of part of it. The enlargement is again trace onto the same sheet of paper. Next in Process 3, the enlargement is being imported without any changes while I cropped the original outline into two. First, I trace portion of the outlines as they are and then invert the piece of paper and trace the remaining lines. Finally, I connect six of the ending points with three lines to make the drawing more complete.

Red with its tints and shades will be my choice of colour schemes for the final painting.

I find it difficult to draw a semi abstract image as creativity is constraint. The drawing must be abstract but not too simple or complicated to be understandable. My first two attempts are too abstract leading me to abandon both concepts. Therefore in conclusion, I personally think that semi abstract is much more difficult than normal abstraction.
